The Extremaduran Association for the East-West Cooperation (AECEO) is organizing the First European Municipalities Meeting in Cáceres for the 28th, 29th, 30th of September, 2008. For this event, AECEO will be supported by the Regional Government of Extremadura, the County Councils of Cáceres and Badajoz, the Extremaduran Association of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMPEX), the Town Hall of Cáceres and the European Academy of Yuste Foundation.

In this European Municipalities Meeting they will meet high authorities and representatives of more than 100 municipalities from the 27 states belonging to the E.U. and it will promote the knowledge and debate about horizontal and sectorial topics of general interest in the current European territorial and municipal situation.

Among these topics, they will be discussed the municipal cooperation in the Europe of the 21st Century, municipal Governing Patterns in Europe regarding to the proximity to the citizens, the future of the municipal services and their different management patterns, municipalities and environment, and local development and employment.

AECEO was founded in 2003 in view of the necessity to face up to the current European reality that, even offering unquestionable opportunities in all areas, it however raises many divergences at a political, social, economic and institutional level. In this context, several public and private entities from Extremadura decided to put together in order to join forces and constitute AECEO.

The objectives of AECEO are promoting the collaboration in economic, social and institutional areas of public and private entities from Extremadura with other similar institutions from Central and East of Europe, becoming the negotiator of the public administrations of Extremadura in order to warranty the economic, social and democratic promotion of the region in Europe, and contributing to the economic  and social development of Extremadura, through the reciprocal cooperation with the countries of recent incorporation of the European Union.
